Typically when animating a title sequence or commercial, you have layered Photoshop files that were created for the storyboard. Using this script, you can quickly turn this layered artwork into 3D scenes as a starting point for the animation.
How to use: 1. Import a layered photoshop file as a composition. I've included PSDto3D_test.psd that you can import to try the script out. 2. Open the composition and run the PSDto3D_add script. 3. Switch the comp to show 2 views, let's say Active Camera and Custom View 1. Now you can move the layers anywhere on the z-axis (drag the blue arrows in the comp window, or scrub z-position values in the timeline) and it will still look exactly like the original artwork through the Active Camera view, until you animate the camera and see it's in 3D. 4. Expressions were added to control the layers' scale based on their z-positions. After you've positioned your layers, I suggest you run the PSDto3D_remove script to remove this link between position and scale, especially if you're planning on animating the layers. Tips: 1. If no layers are selected when you run these scripts, all layers will be affected. Otherwise only the selected layers will be. 2. If you want to use a particular camera zoom, add your own camera before running the script. Otherwise a default camera will be created. by Paul Tuersley KeywordsPhotoshop, Layer, 3D, Multiplane, spread, z-depth(Min. Version: After Effects CS3, Category: 3D, Type: Scripts (jsx)) | |||||||

This expression maintains the objects apparent size as it moves away from camera.
It's helpful for taking a flat layout and making a "multiplane" layout from it for animation. |

Interactively control camera focus distance.
The camera will focus wherever your null or solid happens to sit. This expression is golden when you're doing a lot of Depth of Field work. |
